Choice Very Fine Roman Republic AR silver denarius coin. Scarce reverse type struck at the Rome Mint 137 BC.
Veturia 1, 3.83g, approx 19mm. Certified by NGC to Ch VF. Colorfully toned with great details and full legends. Obverse: draped bust of Mars right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head; X (mark of value) between crest and neck, TI. Reverse: O ath-taking scene of youth kneeling left, head right, holding pig, two soldiers standing facing him on either side, each with grounded spear in left hand and touching pig with sword in right hand, ROMA above.
Sear notes: A remarkable type representing a complete break with the 75-year tradition of the denarius coinage. The reverse is a revival of the gold coinage of 217-216 BC.
